In the past three years more than ten low intensity bomb blasts rocked the Madurai city. This also includes the planting of pipe bomb in the route of L.K.Advani in 2011. The police on the pretext of arresting the culprits enquired more than 350 people from the Muslim community. All these innocents including women were subjected to severe torture and mental pressure. Various social organizations and the Mohalla Jamaths voiced their concern against the illegal arrest and torture.

Popular Front of India, the neo social movement working at national level, decided to launch its activities in the State of Assam and constituted an adhoc committee. The committee has formally been come to effect when National General Secretary O.M.A. Salam handed over the Front’s flag to Aminul Haq, the President of the newly constituted adhoc committee, in the People’s convention on Citizenship and Democracy held today at Guwahati.
The amendments made to Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have become a very serious blow to the basic tenets of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Indian constitution. Thousands of youths hailing from Muslim, Sikh, Dalit and Adivasi communities are languishing in different jails in India under UAPA. The former repressive laws like TADA and POTA were withdrawn when people protested against the severe and drastic misuse of the law. Also the human rights activists and right thinking people demanded their repeal. The Congress Government allowed TADA to lapse.
Popular Front of India, Bangalore District celebrated its foundation day at Shivajinagar with Grand Unity March and Public meeting. The National Executive Council of Popular Front of India has declared February 17 as Popular Front Day in the year 2013. It was on this date that Popular Front of India was dedicated to the people of India as a national organisation in the historic Empower India Conference held at Bangalore in 2007. The National organisation was formed by merging three state organisations that were working in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
The Tamil nadu state unit of Popular Front of India decided to conduct the Unity March and public program at Ramanathapuram district on the occasion of Popular Front Day. The permission for the same was received well in advance. The district police administration had given the permission for the parade and public program in written.
