“The ban on sale of cows for slaughter and the new restrictions imposed on cattle trade by the central government will trigger new waves of Hindutva violence against Muslims and Dalits across the country”, Abdul Wahid Sait, Secretary, Popular Front of India warned in a statement issued here today following the amendments to the existing rules governing Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The move is yet another attack by the Narendra Modi government on people’s freedom to eat what they like.

Rebuild Babri Masjid: Popular Front demands to fulfill the promise

In a statement released on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid by Hindutwa forces, Popular Front Chairman K M Shareef demanded rebuilding Babri Masjid at its actual site as was promised by the government to the nation immediately after the demolition. Central Secretariat meeting of Poplar Front of India has resolved that Uniform Civil Code is unacceptable and urged the central government to withdraw from moves aimed at imposing Uniform Civil Code on all citizens. Though the directive principles of the Indian constitution advise the state a Uniform Civil Code, nullifying separate personal laws now enjoyed by different religious groups is an infringement of the freedom religion enshrined in it as a fundamental right.
