Popular front condemns police excesses

Chennai : Popular front condemned police officials for their excesses on Mosque land issue at Chennai and  expressed concern over the manhandling  of  many Muslim  Jamath Leaders and innocent civilians including  popular front activists and SDPI Members by the police when the problem is about to be resolved in a peaceful and democratic manner.
Madina Mosque is situated in Anna nagar (W), Chennai and it is constructed before 30 years since then regular congregational prayers held without any interruption. Some anti socials elements around the area used the masjid land to drop garbage and building construction waste materials. Some tried to occupy illegally. Masjid management lodged many complaints to the police but they were inactive .
In this situation Court had given permission to build a fence when  patta is obtained. So  Masjid Management committee  decided to obtain patta and to construct a fence around it to secure the land. So they finally sent representation to the Chennai police commissioner, Chief ministers special cell and other official related to this issue, to provide proper protection and security to construct the fencing on 15-5-2010.
Masjid committee requested Muslim organization to offer support. For about 500 youths from many Muslim organizations gathered at Madina Masjid.
On hearing the news Tasildar Ethirajulu rushed to the spot and inquired about the problem to the Masjid management . They demanded  Tashildar that, they will withhold their construction work if he assured to solve the long pending issue immediately by offering Patta  within a month. he  assured to to return back within an hour to discuss the matter again and  went .
Many Muslim masses dispersed except Social Democratic Party of India’s functionaries like Mohamed Hussain , District President South Chennai  and popular front activists remained with the Jamaath to express their solidarity and awaiting for the tashildar to come.
Earlier tashildar assured to arrange a meeting with the district collector. The problem is about to be resolved in such a situation police entered into the scene and arrested SDPI district president and manhandled  which shoots up tension among the mass public.
Popular front secretary E.Shahid along with SDPI general secretary Mr. Rashid  met Assistant Commissioner asking him to release those who were arrested was also being arrested.
So Popular front conducts agitation and goes on fasting to condemn police atrocities against innocents at  Anna Nagar (East ) Chennai at 7 pm on the same day.  Around 160 popular front cadres participated in that agitation.
All were arrested and released around 11 pm.
